Easter Basket Delights

Are you entertaining for Easter? If so, you might want to send brunch guests home with a Chow Bella Tableware-approved party favor that’s perfect in any Easter basket! You’ll definitely be the “hostess with the mostess” when you whip up a batch or two of this delicious Spring Popcorn recipe.

Spring Popcorn recipe

What bunny wouldn’t want this delicious treat in their Easter basket?

What you need:

  • 2 bags of Orville Redenbachers “Gourmet White” microwave popcorn
  • 1 10 oz bag of ChocoMaker Birthday Cake-flavored candy melts (found at Wal-Mart)
  • 3-4 Tablespoons of Trader Joe’s Speculoos Cookie Butter
  • 1 bag of spring-colored Peanut M&M’s
  • 1 cup of pink (or, really, any springy color) Wilton’s Candy Melts
  • candy garnishes (such as Peeps!)

How do you do:

  1. Pop your popcorn and allow it to cool slightly, then pour into a large mixing bowl (this is a good time to be sure you don’t get a lot of unpopped kernels in the mix).
  2. Melt the birthday cake-flavored candy melts according to directions on the bag. Just FYI, if you’re doing this in the microwave (and, really, who isn’t?), these candies will hold their shape unless you stir them after heating in 30 second intervals. Keep pressing down on them with a spatula to ensure you’re not burning them.
  3. Stir room temperature cookie butter into the liquefied candy melts and then pour over the slightly cooled popcorn, mixing & coating the popcorn well.
  4. Spread your popcorn & “dressing” mixture out onto wax or parchment paper and distribute the M&M’s evenly throughout.
  5. Melt the candy melts (either in a double boiler or in the microwave), stirring constantly until all are combined. Drizzle the melted candy over the popcorn & M&M’s. Allow to cool so that the “drizzles” don’t become “smears!”
  6. Bag this deliciously addicting popcorn treat up & top with candy garnishes. We happen to think the new Party Cake Peeps look simply adorable sitting atop a popcorn nest!
  7. Chow Down!

A Hippie Easter to you!

Chow Bella Tableware has some fun new eco friendly napkins & table linen products in the works. They all seem to be inspired by a recent trip to California, so today the CBT team got down to some tie-dying! You’ll have to wait a bit longer to see our new line of hand dyed cotton napkins and some really amazing (we think so!) other products from our summer line, but we just couldn’t wait to show you what we did with some of the extra dye!

Entertaining Ideas: A Chow Bella Party!

When Chow Bella Tableware entertains, there is plenty of chow… And it is bella! Remember in that last post how we said there had been two projects keeping us busy? The first was the scrap quilt made of remnants from the manufacture of our eco friendly 100% cotton napkins and tableware. The second was a baby shower for a dear friend of Chow Bella! We were able to put a beautiful gold & ivory tablecloth into action on the buffet, in addition to another linen tablecloth at the bar.

The buffet featuring a beautiful gold & linen tablecloth

Tired of the same old “grey & yellow gender-neutral” shower themes, We went for gold, glitter and chalkboards!

The bar, featuring a linen tablecloth & plenty of drinks!

We tried to think of some great drinks to go on top of the beautiful linens & finally settled on a “Laborpagne…” Basically, a bellini with a theme-tastic name!

In addition, there were too many Pinterest projects to name going on at this party! One that we’re especially proud of has nothing to do with linens, but everything to do with ping pong balls, Christmas lights & glitter. Take that “Mr. Man at Home Depot who looked at us like we were crazy!”

Many ping pong balls were harmed in the making of this sign!

Like a 100% Cotton Hug

Lately, we’ve been busy at Chow Bella Tableware working on two big projects beyond our usual cotton napkins and table linens. Here’s a little bit of info about the first of those two projects and our continuing focus on going green.

We talk a lot about sustainability and reusing items (such as our 100% cotton napkins) instead of buying new, disposable things (like paper towels). To that end, you might wonder what happens to all of the extra scraps that are left over when we cut the fabric for our line of cotton napkins & table linens. Well, not to worry… Nothing goes to waste! While you use our products at dinnertime tonight, someone else might be wrapping up in a 100% cotton hug. Today, that person happens to be a good friend and her hug looked like this:

A 100% Cotton Hug- The Missing U Quilt

No scrap goes to waste at Chow Bella Tableware!

Do you see a scrap that resembles a set of Chow Bella Tableware’s eco friendly napkins or table decor that you purchased from our Etsy store in this quilt? Since there are 500 different pieces and over 100 individual prints and patterns, it’s entirely likely you’ll recognize something! It’s name is the “Missing U” and the design came from a fantastic book entitled Sunday Morning Quilts by Amanda Jean Nyberg & Cheryl Arkison. As the story goes, Arkison is Canadian and her editor kept having to remove the “u’s” that she was instinctively inserting into words such as “colour” and “favourite.” There’s a white scrap in the midst of each colored block in the quilt that represents the missing “u.” It was an appropriate gift to say “we’ll be missing you,” as our friend leaves a group we’re a part of to begin a new chapter in her life!

We hope she’ll go green outdoors & use this quilt for a fabulous picnic that also includes Chow Bella Tableware’s eco friendly cloth napkins! For more pics of the Missing U quilt, check out our Facebook page!

Napkin Folding: Butterflies, Bunnies & Blossoms… Oh my!

In Italy, Easter is a huge celebration with lots of food & family… Just like every holiday… Ok, really, just like any day ending in “y!” Buona Pasqua is how you’d wish someone a “Happy Easter” in Italy, though the country also celebrates “La Pasquetta,” or, “Little Easter” on the Monday following Easter Sunday. It’s a relaxation-fueled encore to Easter Sunday, when many families take their leftovers out for a picnic at the beach or on their terrace.

Since Easter is almost upon us, I thought you all might like a few napkin folding ideas for your upcoming celebrations! It just so happens that there’s a wonderful slideshow napkin folding tutorial over on HGTV’s website that demonstrates how to fold cloth napkins into all sorts of springtime icons, as the title of this post suggests! You can find it by clicking here. We think our Chow Bella Tableware napkins would be just gorgeous on your Easter table!

Antique Linens: Love for a lifetime

Have you ever done a search for “antique linens” on Pinterest? If you do, you’ll find what seems like a million gorgeous images for old pieces of cloth that have unique monograms, patterns, textures and, sometimes, gorgeous hand-sewn appliques & laces. It’s truly phenomenal what beautiful elements people used for the seemingly mundane task of wiping their mouths in generations past!

Antique linens are highly sought after at flea markets & brocantes across the US and Europe and fetch commandingly high prices when they have special monograms or lace. However, what’s remarkable to me is how our generation is using these old linens in refreshingly modern ways. For example, a gorgeous pair of pillows covered in an antique European grain sack or how about a DIY curtain made from many linens stitched together? One of my favorite ideas for old linens, though, is a hobo bag constructed of linens, lace & even a monogram… The triple threat!

We hope that the linens you purchase from Chow Bella Tableware last a lifetime & beyond… Just imagine how your own children might re-purpose today’s cloth, tomorrow! Need more ideas? Please be sure to follow Chow Bella Tableware on Pinterest by clicking here!

Ciao!

We’ll be adding fresh content to the site regularly, with links to some fantastic styling that you can easily bring into your own home with many of our products. Today’s posting includes a link to an excellent article featuring an Italian Osteria-inspired wedding on one of our favorite blogs: Green Wedding Shoes.

We especially love how this couple incorporated natural linen napkins at each placesetting, as well as chalkboard fabric placemats. Be sure to have a look at similar products offered in our online shop and recreate this beautiful setting in your own home!

What is Chow Bella?

“Ciao, bella!” Anyone who has ever visited the beautiful boot known as Italy, is familiar with the phrase. Young men yell it to beautiful young ladies, shopkeepers cheekily say it to female customers (regardless of age), and Hollywood has immortalized it in movies from “La Dolce Vita” to “Roman Holiday.” It means, simply, “hello, beautiful!”

Chow Bella Tableware is so named, because we create table linens that we hope will not only grace your table as you’re chowing down, but will also give a “hello, beautiful” to our precious Mother Earth. Reusable linens are an affordable and thoughtful way to cut down on the paper waste that your home produces each year while sprucing up your tabletop! Use them at breakfast, lunch, dinner… For entertaining… For everyday… For our planet… Because dining should be beautiful!
